Recently, however, I found a journal that would help me remember my journey as a mother for years and years. It will help me remember the small things that happen every day that I will easily forget in just a year's time. It's funny how quickly this whole mom thing goes by.
Anyway, the thing I like most about this journal is that I don't have to think about what to write. I don't have to be creative at the end of a long day. I can just open to today's date and answer the question. It's a Q & A journal where you answer a pre-printed question every day for 5 years. It's the same question every year, but will likely yield very different answers each year. There have even been a few times (probably more than I would like to admit) where I will have been busy for several days or even a week and it's easy to go back and fill in all the answers in one night. There's enough room for me to elaborate a little if I want, or I can keep my answers short and sweet.
My only advice with this journal is to be totally honest with it. You might want everything in it to be all warm and cozy like our Facebook posts, but it's about being real. After your kids are grown and you look through the book, you'll appreciate your own honesty and be able to remember the struggles and joy mixed together...you know, being a parent. I can't wait to start comparing the years and see how much easier (or harder) it gets over the years.
For example, one question is "Does your child have a signature move?" I would LOVE to always remember how my son points at me whenever he doesn't know what to say or how my daughter talks with her hands making karate chopping motions as she explains things. I am 100% sure that next year at this time, they won't be doing that anymore. I love it and never want to forget those little things.
There are probably about a million different versions of these journals, but here's where I got mine and I absolutely love it. No matter which one you choose, I'm sure you will be happy and enjoy reading back on some of your comments.
